Series 1 · GPU prices · NVIDIA · snapshot 16 Oct 2026
A consumer card rented by the hour: the RTX 4090 costs $0.42 at the median, and marketplace hosts list it for as little as $0.13. It is the cheapest GPU in the index.

§1Reading the RTX 4090 market
Vast.ai's marketplace keeps the floor near $0.13–$0.14 per hour, with readings that change hour to hour as hosts come and go. RunPod's Community Cloud charges $0.34; Beam lists $0.44 on demand and $0.69 serverless; RunPod's Secure Cloud tier, at $0.74, is now the highest confirmed rate.
That ceiling is a correction, not a market move. The tracker previously carried $1.61 from a Beam guide page that has since returned 404; Beam's live pricing is far lower, so the top of the range came down to RunPod. The median has slid from $0.69 in Jun 2024 to $0.42, as Theta EdgeCloud, GPU.ai and Novita add cheap capacity.
Novita's 12-month reserved rate of $0.27 is the only term price in the record, 36% below the median and above the marketplace floor.

§3What moves the RTX 4090 price
- Consumer hardware: NVIDIA's reference card is 24 GB GDDR6X at 450 W total graphics power; it runs in ordinary PCs and small servers, so supply is broad.
- Host reliability: RunPod's Secure Cloud tier costs 2.2× its Community Cloud for the same card.
- Memory ceiling: 24 GB limits it to smaller models and fine-tuning; that keeps it out of the data center price bands.
- Newer consumer cards: the 32 GB RTX 5090 has a median of $0.67, 60% more than the 4090, for 8 GB more memory.
§4Rent or buy
Around-the-clock rental of one 4090 is $307 a month at the median, $197 on Novita's 12-month term.
This is the one part in the index where many buyers can simply own the card, but retail prices change too quickly for us to cite a dated figure, so none appears here. For a fleet of consumer-class servers, the form below asks suppliers for current pricing.
